Denham is a fictional Sussex village, created by writer Christopher Harris – a place of ordinary people, minor disasters, strange obsessions, non league football politics, village feuds and the occasional situation that gets completely out of hand.
The short stories range from satire and comedy to darker, more reflective pieces. with recurring characters and places gradually building a wider world around the village. Denham Phoenix FC, the local non-league football club, has developed into a novel of its own, with boardroom shenanigans, unlikely ambitions and increasingly improbable events. It is now nearing completion.
Away from that, Something About England, brings together thirteen short stories set in and around the village of Denham. More non-football short stories, tentatively and inspiringly titled, Something About England 2, and the book centred on Denham Phoenix FC are in late development.
This site is where the whole thing continues to grow, new fiction, extracts, background stories, writing notes, the marketing and development process and the occasional real-life event that suspiciously feels as though it belongs in Denham.
